Levels
Level 1: Water Skills Introduction
Beginner swimmers learn how to feel comfortable in the water.
Level 1 swimmers learn how to:
- Safely enter and exit the pool.
- Submerge mouth, nose and eyes.
- Blow bubbles (exhale) underwater using nose and mouth.
- Open eyes underwater (with or without goggles).
- Retrieve submerged object in shallow water.
- Roll over from front to back and vice versa with support.
- Experience floating on front and back with support.
- Experience assisted swimming on front and back using arm and leg movements.
Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Gives beginner swimmers success with fundamental skills in the water.
Level 2 swimmers learn how to:
- Enter the pool by stepping or jumping in from the side.
- Exit the pool safely from the side with and / or without the use of the ladder.
- Submerge entire head.
- Blow bubbles submerging head in a rhythmic pattern (bobbing).
- Retrieve submerged object in deeper water.
- Streamline on front and back.
- Roll over from front to back and vice versa.
- Tread water using arm and leg motion (chest-deep water).
- Swim assisted freestyle and backstroke.
Level 3: Stroke Development
Beginner swimmers build on skills from level 2.
Level 3 swimmers learn how to:
- Jump into deep water from the side of the pool.
- Dive from kneeling or standing position.
- Submerge and retrieve an object in chest-deep water.
- Bob with head fully submerged.
- “Putt the golf ball” breathing.
- Kick freestyle and backstroke in streamline position.
- Change from horizontal to vertical position from front to back.
- Tread water using arm and leg movements in deep water
- Swim freestyle and backstroke
- Intorduction to breastroke
- Butterfly kick and body motion
Level 4: Stoke Improvement
Beginner swimmers develop more confidence in their skills though practice while improving
other swimming skills.
Level 4 swimmers learn how to:
- Dive from the side of the pool in a “step up” and “track start” position.
- Streamline kick (butterfly and freestyle) underwater on stomach and back.
- Perform open turns
- Tread water using sculling arm motions and using different kicks
- Introduction to butterfly stroke
- Perform freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke
Level 5: Stroke Refinement
Beginner swimmers are provided further coordination and refinement of all 4 strokes.
Level 5 swimmers learn how to:
- Perform a start from the blocks with all four strokes
- Perform an open turn with all four strokes
- Perform a freestyle and backstroke flip turn
- Perform all 4 strokes without disqualification
AFTER COMPLETION OF EACH LEVEL, SWIMMERS WILL RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
